Pwll Gwenllian

This pool near Pencastell is said to have the ghost of a misty white form, which is that of Lady Gwenllian. She warns of the dangers of the waters.

Careg Fawr

The ghost of Hywel (the father of Lady Gwenllian above) is said to haunt the area. The apparition has been described as an old man “with head crowned, armed with sword, shield and battle-axe, and wearing a shattered breast plate”. It is believed that Hywel was buried under an immense boulder in this location.

Visitor Information

Cwmavon (Welsh: Cwmafan) is a large village in the Neath Port Talbot County Borough, Wales.

Port Talbot is less than 2 miles to the south, but it is separated from the town by the local geography. The literal translation of Cwmafan from Welsh to English is 'Valley of the River Afan', Cwm meaning valley and Afan being the name of the river.
